Thornton Abbey

Welcome to Thornton Abbey's Gatehouse
It's very close to our home & very interesting,
beautiful and fun to explore

Come inside with me.......

Built in 1139-1148 it's been falling apart for some time
but they save the pieces
It's beautiful inside and this is just the gatehouse

This spiral staircase took us down
this pillar to exit
Isnt' it awesome

The church here was funded by the wool they raised and there are still sheep here on the
grounds guarding the ruins.......this one looked pregnant thus the mean face....lol

it was huge at one time

not much left but it in it's day it was an amazing edifice,  darn that Henry VIII

Come visit us in Lincolnshire and enjoy the beauty, history & these cool people.

A real Pilgrim Thanksgiving

Making Pumpkin pie from scratch since they don't have Libby's over here
made me feel like a real pilgrim......
It was spectacular by the way

The pie crust is called Shortbread here and yes that's the
biggest bag of pecans I could find and no Karo just some
'cane' syrup...but again it was delish

Our feast was very yummy. thanks to my honey bringing me some Stove Top when he was in the states recently
We tried to share with 6 Native American missionaries but....

this was the only Native American I could find to share my feast with,
notice the cute little jar of cranberry sauce

Just up the road in Immingham they have a Pilgrim Park with
a monument documenting the spot where the
Mayflower left England first to Holland then on to Plymouth
on their way to the new world to find religious freedom

Isn't she in great shape for almost 400yrs old?

and others strut their beautiful colored feathers

some have pretty fur

and I even have a great neighbor who comes to my house to fix my aching back and make me feel much better......he also happens to have been Dustin's neighbor in Greece....'it's a small neighborhood after all'

To Market, to Market to buy a........

I have a wonderful time riding or walking into the village of Waltham
Luckily they have excellent signage so I don't get lost.......
Every village has a pub or two
I didn't get a picture of the Tilted Barrel
but that's where I recycle our plastic
And a Church of England is a must
A cute lady saw me taking pictures and informed me that she had been christened in this church and her parents had been married there in 1929....as she was pushing her grandson in the 'pram' to see the windmill.
this florist shop always has the cutest arrangements, there is a tearoom deli and a 'Hallmark' shop too
One of my many 'favorite' doors.....watch for more I have a whole collection
The post office I visit often, with a drug store and hair salon next to it

as well as one of the 2 grocery stores and Mumbai Blues, our favorite Indian restaurant . along with chinese take away and a 'chippie' because everyone needs fish & chips
and of course they named one street after a very special resident

Everyone walks their dogs 2 & 3 at a time
the bakery.....that doesn't bake anything, I saw the delivery truck...lol

and the Library next door.

It's a Harry Potter world

I searched and searched the train station till I finally found it.......

The way Harry gets to Hogwarts

While in Edinburgh we walked by the school that inspired JK to dream up Hogwarts.....

We even stayed at the same Balmoral Hotel where JK finished writing the last Harry Potter.
Oh Harry how we love a good wizard

"someday my goofy Prince will come.......

I realize I'm not the greatest photographer but......
I found I had a considerable amount of goofy pictures of my Prince
and all were when we were out & about in London.

Goofy on the bus                                       goofy halfway to heaven

I especially like this view of my goofy prince checking out the King's chair

if you know my goofy prince, you know he could never pass up a Piccadilly whip

or act normal on the train.....

But every now and again he just can't help but look regal & charming........
I love my happily ever after goofy Prince
